Municipal waste

Despite the fact that this type of waste only account for around 10% of all waste generated in the Czech Republic, this website focuses on it. As citizens, we can best affect the amount of municipal waste generated. Municipal waste is defined as waste generated in a municipality. In addition to household waste, it includes other waste from the functioning of municipalities – such as waste from offices, waste generated from maintaining public spaces (street bins, street waste, waste generated from maintaining public green spaces). The originator of such waste is the municipality and are therefore obliged to deal with it (its collection method is most often set by a municipal decree). When reporting, commercial waste (waste similar to municipal waste) is also included in the municipal waste group, but is generated by entrepreneurs.

Do not confuse the term municipal waste with the term mixed municipal waste. Mixed municipal waste is actually only part of municipal waste.

Shrabané listí, posekaná tráva a ořezané větve jsou typickou ukázkou komunálních odpadů vzniklých provozem a údržbou obce.

Raked leaves, cut grass and trimmed branches are typical examples of municipal waste generated by a municipality's operation and maintenance.

Konstrukce s pytli je alternativou ke klasickým odpadkovým košům. Oboje slouží pro drobný směsný komunální odpad vznikající na veřejných prostranstvích.

The bag design is an alternative to classic waste bins. Both are used for small mixed municipal waste generated in public spaces.

V parcích, na náměstích a jiných místech, kde je vysoký výskyt obyvatel, je vhodné umístit koše na odpad. Pokud mají občané možnost odpady do košů třídit, zvyšuje se tak míra tříděného sběru.

It is advisable to place waste bins in parks, squares and other places where there is a high concentration of residents. If citizens have the opportunity to sort waste into bins, the separate collection rate increases.

Další složkou komunálních odpadů souvisejících s provozem obce jsou odpady ze hřbitovů. Jedná se o kombinaci biologicky rozložitelného odpadu se zbytky věnců a svíček. Tedy odpad, který nelze jednoduše dotřídit.

Another municipal waste component related to municipality operation is waste from cemeteries. It is a combination of organic waste with the remains of wreaths and candles. That is, waste that cannot be easily re-sorted.

Pro udržení čistoty veřejného prostoru je vhodné dát majitelům psů k dispozici sáčky na psí exkrementy a ideálně i koše, kam je lze vyhodit.

In order to maintain the cleanliness of a public space, it is advisable to provide dog owners with dog excrement bags and, ideally, bins where it can be thrown away.
